Cain

Cain
2009 - A Pound of Flesh (Bonus Tracks), 1975

One of those 70's rarities that leaves you scratching your head, "why weren't these guys picked up by a major?" A Pound of Flesh delivers on all fronts, foremost the quality of the songs and skill of the performers, Jiggs Lee possessing a tremendous vocal range,
guitarist Lloyd Forsberg wringing his Strat with finesse and power, the rhythm section
locked in. Cain are mostly straight-shootin', bell bottoms 'n' brewskies hard rock of the
era, with elements of pomp (see the roller rink romancer "Katy" and proggy-epic
"All My Life") evident in their shattering backing vocals. Every tune cooks in it's own way, but special accolades must go to the kinetic cyclone "Queen of the Night," Starz-ish strut of "South Side Queen," and "Heed the Call," which shoulda been covered by
Dio-era Rainbow. Rockadrome's 2009 re-reissue adds four high-quality
demo cuts recorded for an unreleased 3rd album - a bit tamer than the
Flesh material but proof this band still had something to offer.
